Interns may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Interns are frequently required to stand. While performing the duties, interns are regularly required to walk talk or hear in person sit climb or balance stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl smell use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands or arms. Licenses / Certificates / Special Requirements Candidates must be enrolled in one water and/or wastewater class per semester during the duration of the internship program.
Qualification GuidelinesĪ typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined is graduation from high school or GED equivalent candidates must be enrolled in either Cuyamaca Community College's Water and Wastewater Technology Program or Palomar Community College's Water Technology Education or Wastewater Technology Education vocational programs at the time of interview. Duties and ResponsibilitiesĬandidates selected to participate in the internship program will work at different water and wastewater agencies in the San Diego region, gaining valuable experience rotating through four different modules: System Operations, System Maintenance, Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment.Ĭompletion of the internship program provides students with the prerequisites necessary to apply for the state water and wastewater certification exams.įlexible schedule with a minimum of 16 hours up to 20 hours maximum per week. As the water and wastewater industry experiences an increased demand for qualified staff, this internship program provides students in the San Diego region with career opportunities and on-the-job experience. In 2006 the San Diego County Water Authority joined together with regional water agencies, community colleges and private-sector partners to develop a water and wastewater internship program.
